Social Media Rips Into First Destination-Wide Las Vegas Sale

Social Media Rips Into First Destination-Wide Las Vegas Sale

On Monday, the Las Vegas tourism bureau revealed the specifics of its first destination-wide offer in response to a months-long drop in visitors.  Additionally, its reductions aren't deep enough, at least based on social media, which offers the fastest response.

Discounts include "up to 25% off" Bellagio rooms plus a $100 food credit and "up to 33% off" suites at the Venetian plus a $150 dining credit with a reservation at Resorts World are part of the Fabulous 5-Day Sale, which is valid from September 22–26 on resort accommodations, eating options, and entertainment.

Additionally, Harrah's Las Vegas Hotel & Casino, Flamingo Las Vegas, Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino, The LINQ Hotel + Experience, and Horseshoe Las Vegas are all offering room rates of up to 50% off thanks to Caesars Entertainment.

The new deal is an invitation for travelers "to rediscover the magic, energy, and unbeatable value of Las Vegas," according to the Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority (LVCVA).

In addition to the widely held belief that Las Vegas has become too costly because casinos nickel-and-dime their devoted patrons with parking fees, resort fees, and even fees for silverware, checking in early, and unplugging cords, it reacts to a seven-month decline in tourism, with June visitation down 11% from the previous year, according to Investopedia.

Too Little, Too Late?

It will take time to see if the sale can help turn around the downtown, which experts attribute to a number of factors, including declining consumer confidence, unstable job markets, trade disputes, and boycotts over current US policies, in addition to worries about deflated value.\

However, for the time being, social media allows us to assess the immediate response.  And the campaign has failed because of that response.  The LVCVA's X post announcing the sale had 20 comments, 19 of which were critical.

“Too little too late,” wrote X user @Fredthehada.

“Read the room,” added @CasioWiser. “People don’t want to be nickel and dimed. Not given a discount code so they can pay normal prices.”

“Massive discounts after we raise the prices for the sale,” added @SocDecay

“How about.. $0 Resort Fees $0 Parking Fees .99 Cent Shrimp Cocktail $9.99 Steak & Egg Breakfasts 24×7 3/2 Blackjack & Double 0 Roulette You know….2015 Vegas,” wrote @LoanNinja.
